I see it's been nearly a year since I have posted on this blog! Yikes. I am still in Abu Dhabi, now in my third year. Although I miss my family very much, I love my work and writing life here. This picture is the view from my apartment in center city Abu Dhabi. Two years ago I was terrified to drive here, and put off getting a car for f months. Even then I ventured out only on Fridays - the Muslim holy day and first day of the weekend.
Now I am more comfortable getting around the city, though I still get teased about how few kilometers I've racked up. This doesn't bother me at all. Our small writing group meets monthly at one of our homes and we have a great time. Right now I am 2nd place overall in the Slingink Scribbling Slam contest out of the U.K. Every two weeks, contestants write a story of 2000 words or less based on a prompt. It's a great way to hone writing skills.
This year I'm also participating in NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month. The challenge is to write a novel of 50,000 words in one month. We'll see how I do with this!
